Brazilian airline GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes has announced that it is to be the launch airline for Gogo TV, the company’s IPTV service powered by its 2Ku satellite-based inflight Wi-Fi system installed on all GOL aircraft.

Gogo TV enables an airline to broadcast sports, breaking news, and other live video content to passengers’ Wi-Fi devices and embedded IFE systems. It also gives airlines the opportunity to tailor offerings based on region or destination.

GOL’s live programming will offer six TV channels that can be viewed by passengers on their own devices, such as smartphones, tablets or notebooks.

The content comes from a partnership between GOL and TV channel producer Globosat.

The channel lineup includes some of their most popular TV channels: TV Globo, GloboNews, Gloob, GNT, Multishow, and OFF.

Paulo Miranda, GOL’s Chief Experience Officer, said: “Innovation is part of GOL and adding Live TV streaming is another important step. We are very pleased to be the first airline in Latin America to offer Internet connection, entertainment and live TV to our customers.

“GOL is very proud of connecting people, and live TV streaming complements and enhances the inflight experience”.

In October 2016, Gogo announced that GOL was to become the first airline in South America to offer inflight internet on board via 2Ku.

The first flight equipped with Gogo 2Ku satellite communication technology was between Congonhas-Brasilia-Congonhas. Its Boeing 737-800s are being used throughout GOL’s entire domestic and international route network.

Back then, Gogo said GOL’s entire fleet would be equipped by October 2018.
