Global Eagle Entertainment (GEE) and flydubai have announced the launch of an inflight connectivity and entertainment service on flydubai’s Boeing 737 aircraft, using GEE’s Airconnect Ku-band IFEC system.
Deployment of the Airconnect system on flydubai’s fleet is under way, providing high-speed internet and live television to passenger’s personal devices while in flight.
In June, GEE announced it had signed a contract with flydubai to equip the low-cost carrier’s current and future fleet of Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft with its broadband/Wi-Fi Airconnect system.
In addition to internet and broadcast television, GEE provides flydubai with media content for viewing on the airline’s seat-back inflight entertainment system, as well as electronic flight bag (EFB) solutions to support airline operations.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer, flydubai, said: “This launch marks a major milestone in delivering high-speed satellite inflight connectivity aboard our flights and brings technical capabilities that will continue to differentiate the airline from its peers.
“GEE’s total end-to-end solution allows us to enhance our award-winning IFEC strategy and bring a new level of service to our passengers.”
Dave Davis, Chief Executive Officer, GEE, said: “GEE has enabled flydubai to take control of the total inflight passenger experience like never before, starting with integrated inflight entertainment, connectivity, digital media solutions and rounding it out with real-time data operations solutions.
“We’re looking forward to tailoring additional solutions that will continue to enhance the flydubai passenger experience in the months and years ahead.”
