Duncan AviationDuncan Aviation has upgraded and installed ADS-B Out avionics equipment on a Challenger 850 SE, which it says is an industry first in the United States.

The Duncan Aviation Satellite Avionics Shop in Las Vegas, Nevada, upgraded the displays, GPS sensors, and software in the cockpit before upgrading the Rockwell Collins TDR-94D transponder, bringing the aircraft into compliance with the FAA’s ADS-B Out mandate, which is coming in less than 36 months.

Using the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approved for use in the United States by the FAA and developed by Avmax in Calgary, Alberta, and the STC for Wide Area Augmentation System/Localiser Performance with Vertical Guidance (WAAS/LPV) developed by Rockwell Collins, the Las Vegas shop readied the Challenger for WAAS/LPV and then performed the upgrades necessary for ADS-B Out.

Mark Francetic, Regional Avionics Sales Manager, said: “In addition to satisfying the mandated requirements for ADS-B Out, the techs at the Las Vegas shop saved our customer downtime and money by combining the upgrades and accomplishing the entire installation in the customer’s hangar in three weeks.”

Lyn Johnson, Director of Maintenance for Gaughan Flying in Las Vegas, decided to complete all of the mandated upgrades at the same time.

“Prices will go up, so we decided not to wait,” said Johnson. “It was all on time and on budget, and everything works.

“That’s why I’ve done business with the Duncan Aviation’s Las Vegas Satellite Shop since it opened in 1995, and that’s why I’ll continue to go back. Everything works as advertised, just like everything Duncan Aviation does.”

In addition to the Avionics Satellite Shop in Las Vegas, Duncan Aviation says its has a network of more than 24 satellite shops located within an hour of the 25 busiest airports in the United States.

“Eighteen of our Satellite Avionics Shops are more than just nearby; they actually have hangars at 18 of the busiest airports, giving our customers convenient, easy-to-access locations around the country,” said Matt Nelson.

“Our customers can trust Duncan Aviation and any of its locally-managed, brick-and-mortar satellite shops with all of their avionics needs. Now, with the mandate deadline for ADS-B Out rapidly approaching, we’d like our customers to know they can trust us with their ADS-B needs, as well. We’ve installed ADS-B equipment on everything from Cessna 172s to Boeing Business Jets (BBJs).”
