Saudia scoops “Airline IFEC experience” award at AIME

British Airways inflight connectivitySaudia scooped the “Airline IFEC experience” award at this week’s “Inflight” Awards, held at Aircraft Interiors Middle East (AIME 2019) event in Dubai.

“Inflight” says judges praised the airline, the first in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia regions to introduce a complimentary social media messaging plan onboard flights, allowing free access to iMessage, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp.

It said within four months of its introduction more than 500,000 passengers had logged on and experienced the free Saudia Whatsapp plan.

Inmarsat retained its award for “Connectivity enablement” – see separate story.

Bluebox won the “IFE system provider” category, with Jazeera Airways launching Jazeera Screens on all flights, enabling passengers to watch movies and TV, play games, read about local destinations and track their route, all for free.

This marks the first Bluebox Wow deployment in the Middle East.

The “Content provision” award went to Global Eagle,which provides airline customers with a package of premium audio services from Arabic and regional music labels.
